The International Council of Music Creators (CIAM) held their executive committee meeting in Lisobon, Portugal this week and Fair Trade Music International was high on their agenda. FTMI Chair and CIAM co-vice president Eddie Schwartz attended with fellow director and CIAM president, Lorenzo Ferrero for a strategic review of the council’s objectives.
The Fair Trade Music campaign was highlighted as one of CIAM’s three most important global priorities in addition to the Safe Harbour or Transfer of Value issue and the harmonisation of life+70 years copyright protection. Delegates heard how the campaign seeks to apply the same transparency, sustainability, fairness and ethical standards established by the Fair Trade coffee movement to the music industry and involved actors. The Executive Committee received updates to the programme and how to move forward to increase participation and adoption.
