Protecting the music creator

The copyright framework for songs and musical compositions is well established in global agreements, international treaties and national legislation. Sometimes however, the application of these rules can be complex or opaque. These principles can also function differently for certain musical formats, and legislation can be dissimilar or even contradictory in different parts of the world. In the worst abuses of freedom of expression, these principles can be ignored altogether.

The result is that music creators don’t always get fair treatment. They don’t always have the right to earn a fair livelihood from the success of their work and in some instances, are not able to make or perform music at all. Our campaigns focus on a number of areas in which this inequity is especially visible.
